McDonald’s Revives Boo Buckets with New Designs for 2024
McDonald's, the renowned Chicago-based fast-food giant, has announced the return of its iconic Boo Buckets, a seasonal favorite for Halloween. These themed pails, which have been a staple in McDonald’s Happy Meals during the spooky season since their initial launch in 1986, will make their comeback starting October 15, 2024. This year’s edition introduces a twist with updated designs and a new color addition.
The 2024 Boo Buckets will be available in four colors: white, orange, green, and a fresh addition to the lineup, blue. Each bucket will feature new Monster designs and will be accompanied by themed stickers offering customization options with ears, wings, and other features, allowing customers to personalize their buckets with a “truly monstrous makeover.”
The announcement of the redesigned buckets received mixed reactions on social media platforms. Some users expressed nostalgia, questioning the need for change and advocating for a return to the vintage designs from the 1990s. “I think you all misunderstood why we liked the boo buckets thing. We like the nostalgia,” read a comment on McDonald’s Instagram post.
Others appeared to welcome the return of the Boo Buckets, expressing excitement over the revamped versions. “BEEN WAITING,” one social media user exclaimed, while another commented, “They’re sooo cute,” showing gratitude for the Halloween tradition’s resurgence.
The Boo Buckets were briefly reintroduced in 2022, after an extended absence from McDonald’s offerings. That year saw the return of the nostalgic designs featuring themed buckets like Monster, Skeleton, Mummy, and a purple Vampire, which was a tribute to the original purple Boo Bucket.
McDonald’s stated that the 2024 Boo Buckets will be available at participating locations nationwide for a limited time, “while supplies last.” This return is part of McDonald’s effort to engage with both new and long-time customers through nostalgic and innovative marketing strategies.
