The fast-food giant McDonald's is reintroducing one of its most iconic products, the McRib, to its UK menu for a limited time. This announcement has sparked excitement among the burger’s enthusiasts, marking its return nearly a decade after its last appearance. The McRib will be available from October 16th, but once it sells out, it will be gone from the menu again.

Originally introduced in 1981, the McRib has since gained a cult following, especially due to its rare appearances on the menu. It was first removed from the McDonald’s menu in 2005, but has seen temporary comebacks over the years, the last having been between 2014 and 2016.

Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK, commented on the decision, “It is more than just a sandwich; it’s a phenomenon. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social – and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.”

The sandwich itself is a pork patty resembling ribs, served with barbeque sauce, pickles, and onions on a long bun. Interestingly, the McRib has remained a regular menu item in places like Germany and Luxembourg, where it was initially released to great popularity.

Despite its scarcity in the UK, the McRib’s return is anticipated to be a big hit. McDonald’s advises fans to act quickly, as it is likely to sell out fast. The pricing for the return sees the McRib sold at £4.49 for a single burger and £6.19 as part of a medium extra value meal.

Although some question the hype surrounding the McRib, citing that McDonald’s has several pork and barbecue options that have not achieved similar acclaim, its simplicity and unique taste continue to draw attention. The McRib is just one of several menu items reintroduced or altered by McDonald’s in a bid to keep offerings fresh and cater to popular customer demand.
