Meade High School on Lockdown After Student Stabbing

SEVERN, Md. (WBFF) — Meade High School in Severn was placed on lockdown Thursday morning following a stabbing incident involving a student, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The injured student was transported to a hospital for treatment, while all other students remained in their classrooms under lockdown.
The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m., prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. By 11:20 a.m., police confirmed the student had been stabbed and was receiving medical care. The condition of the student remains unknown.
Anne Arundel County Police issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, urging parents and guardians not to come to the school. “No one is allowed in or out of the building during the lockdown,” the statement read. Army CID, Fort Meade Police, and DES are assisting at the scene.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of school-related violence in Maryland. In September, a school shooting in Harford County resulted in the death of a student, sparking statewide efforts to improve school safety measures and reduce gun violence.
Recent data from the Baltimore City Public Schools system reveals alarming statistics: 205 incidents of gun violence have occurred within two blocks of city schools during the 2024-25 school year, resulting in 14 deaths. At least 47 minors have been victims of violent crime near schools during the same period.
In response to the ongoing crisis, local nonprofits have stepped up efforts to enhance student safety. One organization has launched a volunteer program aimed at providing crisis intervention support and improving active shooter drills.
