Forty new allegations of sexual assault, including rape, have been made against the late former Harrods owner, Mohamed Al Fayed, according to the Metropolitan Police. These accusations span a period between 1979 and 2013 and involve 40 different individuals.

The Metropolitan Police have reported that these recent allegations were brought forward following the broadcast of a BBC documentary which detailed Al Fayed’s alleged misconduct. Since the airing of the documentary, detectives have received a considerable amount of information, especially related to Al Fayed’s activities, though some information also pertains to the actions of other individuals.

Commander Stephen Clayman of the Metropolitan Police stated, “Since the broadcast of the documentary and our recent appeal, detectives have received numerous pieces of information, predominantly relating to the activities of Mohamed Al Fayed but some relating to the actions of others.” He further noted that there is no longer any prospect of a conviction against Al Fayed due to his death at the age of 94 in 2023. However, investigations continue to determine if any other individuals could be pursued for criminal offences regarding these allegations.

These latest claims add to the existing accusations known to authorities before the documentary’s release. Following the documentary’s broadcast, the BBC received contacts from an additional 65 women who reported suffering abuse at the hands of Al Fayed. The Metropolitan Police continues to urge anyone with information or those affected by Al Fayed’s actions to come forward.
