Miami Gardens Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting Incident

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A woman was arrested on Monday after being accused of second-degree murder in a shooting incident that left one man dead. Shaneeka Harris, 40, is charged in connection with the death of her husband, Aaron Swatts, 40, following an altercation on April 18.

According to Miami Gardens Police, officers responded to a call about a shooting at 19336 Northwest 46th Avenue around 6:38 a.m. Upon their arrival, they noticed movement from an upstairs window of the townhouse and evacuated everyone inside.

A juvenile, identified as J.T., exited the home and informed officers that his brother had been shot in the foot. Harris and her other son, T. Tully, also emerged from the residence. Tully reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh, while Swatts was found by officers lying unresponsive at the entrance of an upstairs bedroom, enduring a gunshot wound to his back.

Swatts was quickly airlifted to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving. The preliminary investigation revealed that Harris and Swatts were involved in a heated argument that escalated into violence. Witnesses indicated that Harris fired a warning shot during the confrontation, which was heard by her children.

Officers later found ammunition and a black handgun in the home, supporting claims of a violent altercation. The 911 call placed by J.T. recorded Harris saying, “This man made me shoot my [expletive] son.” This alarming statement has raised questions as to the context of the incident.

Following the shooting, Harris was taken into custody and denied bond during her court appearance on Saturday. Police confirmed that domestic violence is believed to be a contributing factor in the case. Harris has four children from a previous marriage and was living with her sons at the townhouse. A spokesperson for Miami Gardens Police emphasized that domestic violence remains a prevalent issue in the community and urged individuals to seek help if they are in such situations.

The investigation continues as authorities gather more details regarding the events that led to this tragic incident. Police have assured the community that they are exercising all measures to ensure public safety.
