Michel Jean Retires From Journalism

Michel Jean is stepping away from the world of journalism to explore his passion for writing. This transition was announced in a statement by his broadcasting network on Wednesday.

He is all set to host his last news broadcast at TVA and LCN this coming Friday. Following his departure, he will be contributing to the radio show Il restera toujours la culture, hosted by Émilie Perreault on ICI Première this autumn.

Michel’s career in journalism kicked off back in 1986 in Sorel. After working at Radio-Nord in Rouyn-Noranda, he joined Radio-Canada. By 1995, he became the head anchor of Québec en direct at RDI, and later became a national reporter for Téléjournal/Le Point in 2002.

In 2005, he joined TVA as the co-host of the public affairs program JE alongside Annie Gagnon. Over the years, he took on various roles in TVA and LCN news bulletins, and for the last three years, he has been the face of TVA Nouvelles Midi during the weekdays.

Aside from his journalism career, Michel is also a published author. His first book, Envoyé spécial, hit the shelves in 2008. In 2019, he released Kukum, a book that sheds light on Indigenous voices and achieved great success, earning him the France-Québec prize.
