Memphis Winter Storm School Closures 2024

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Mid-South is bracing for a winter storm expected to bring significant snowfall starting Thursday evening, with hazardous travel conditions anticipated through the weekend. Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) confirmed to ABC24 that all after-school and evening activities, including practices, have been canceled for Thursday night. A decision regarding Friday’s classes and activities has not yet been announced.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region, effective from 3 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters predict three to six inches of snow across Middle Tennessee, with some areas potentially receiving up to seven inches. The storm is expected to create dangerous travel conditions, prompting school districts to take precautionary measures.

ABC24 is maintaining an updated list of school closings for the area, which will be revised as new information becomes available. Many students across Middle Tennessee are likely to experience a three-day weekend due to the weather-related disruptions.

Diana Leyva, a reporter for The Tennessean, noted that the winter storm warning underscores the severity of the impending weather. “The majority of the Middle Tennessee area is set to receive between three to six inches of snow on Friday, although some areas could see as much as seven inches,” Leyva reported. She emphasized the importance of staying informed about school closures and travel advisories as the storm approaches.

Residents are advised to monitor local news outlets and official weather updates for the latest information on road conditions and school closures. The storm’s impact is expected to be widespread, affecting not only schools but also businesses and transportation networks throughout the region.
