MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) — The Middlebury Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Middlebury College student. Twenty-one-year-old Lia Smith was last seen around 9 p.m. on Friday, October 17, on campus.

According to school officials, they are actively working with the police and have reached out to Smith’s family and friends to gather more information about her recent activities. Middlebury College has alerted all students, faculty, and staff about Smith’s disappearance.

“We are collaborating closely with the Middlebury police, who are investigating and collecting information at this time,” said Smita Ruzicka, the Vice President for Student Affairs. Demitria Kirby, the Associate Vice President of Safety, also emphasized the importance of community support in this situation.

Smith is a senior from California, majoring in computer science and statistics. She is also a member of the Panther women’s swimming and diving team. Her family has been informed and is actively seeking updates on her condition.
