Minibus Taxi Shutdown Disrupts Commuters In Ekurhuleni

Commuters in Ekurhuleni were left stranded as minibus taxi drivers affiliated with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) embarked on a shutdown across the East Rand region.

Long queues and frustration greeted commuters at the Germiston taxi rank on Thursday morning as they scrambled to find alternative transport options.

SANTACO confirmed that its members would not be operating in key areas including Tembisa, Germiston, Benoni, Katlehong, and Vosloorus until further notice, leaving many without their usual mode of transportation.

Themba Mkhonto, a spokesperson for the taxi council, expressed concern over the sudden shutdown, stating, “We are aware that everything has come to a standstill. We are trying to understand the cause behind this disruption but currently do not have a clear answer.”
