Minnesota Vikings Player, Two Former Teammates Killed in 2024 Crash: Updates Expected
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (7News) — The Prince George's County State’s Attorney’s Office announced a press conference to provide updates on the fatal three-car crash that claimed the lives of Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson, 24, and his former high school football teammates Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, in July 2024. State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy is scheduled to address the public at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The crash occurred on July 6, 2024, on northbound Route 4 near Pennsylvania Avenue and Presidential Parkway in Upper Marlboro. Maryland State Police reported that three vehicles were involved in the collision. According to a preliminary investigation, Cori Clingman, 23, of Upper Marlboro, was driving a silver Infinity when she attempted to change lanes and struck the Dodge Charger carrying Jackson, Hazel, and Lytton. The impact forced the Charger off the road, where it struck multiple tree stumps before coming to a stop. Clingman’s vehicle then collided with a Chevrolet Impala, whose driver was unharmed. Clingman and her two passengers also escaped injury.
Jackson, a rookie cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, had recently signed with the team after a standout college career. Hazel was a former University of Maryland football player, while Lytton, a cornerback, had played for both Penn State and Florida State. All three had been teammates at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro.
Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The tragedy has left the local community and the football world in mourning. “A.J. will be truly missed,” said Kyle Jackson, head football coach at Bowie State University, where Lytton had also played. “He was a bright spot for the Bowie State University Football program. He was a great football player but an even better young man.”
The press conference is expected to provide further details on the investigation and any potential charges. This remains a developing story.
