SALINAS, Calif. — A minor heat risk is expected this afternoon as warmer temperatures begin to settle over California, particularly in inland areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has noted that temperatures could rise significantly this week, with highs reaching up to 20 degrees above average.

This afternoon, temperatures are anticipated to climb into the upper 60s along the coast, while inland areas may see highs in the mid to upper 80s. The warmest spot will likely be in the southern Salinas Valley, where King City could experience temperatures in the 90s.

The NWS has cautioned that while most individuals can tolerate the heat, those who are heat-sensitive should take precautions. Recommended actions include increasing hydration, limiting outdoor activities, and finding shade during peak sun hours.

Friday is expected to be the warmest day of the week as upper-level ridging builds across the West. Throughout the week, coastal areas might experience some fog and cloud cover, stemming from a reestablishing marine layer.

The forecast for the beginning of the week indicates sunny and warm conditions, transitioning to unsettled weather as the weekend approaches. Rain and cooler temperatures are projected for Wednesday, particularly affecting coastal regions where the marine layer will contribute to cloudy skies and a chance of light rainfall.

As these weather patterns develop, temperatures will fluctuate, necessitating caution for outdoor activities, especially for vulnerable populations.
