Miraculous Escape After Light Sport Aircraft Crashes in Pretoria
A light sport aircraft narrowly avoided disaster as it crashed near the M17–N4 intersection in Pretoria earlier today. The pilot and passenger onboard miraculously emerged unharmed from the incident, much to the relief of witnesses and emergency responders.
South African pilot-instructor Sean Cronin commended the pilot for his skillful handling of the situation after the aircraft experienced engine failure during its final approach. The aircraft involved in the crash is identified as a Bat Hawk, a popular three-axis light sport aircraft known for its maneuverability and safety features.
Despite the harrowing experience, the pilot sustained only a minor cut to the head, while the passenger was mainly left in a state of shock. Emergency services were prompt in their response, quickly attending to the pilot and passenger at the crash site, providing necessary medical assistance as required.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority was alerted to the incident and was en route to the crash scene for further investigation and assessment. According to reports, the small plane went down shortly before 09:30 in the vicinity of Hornsnek in Pretoria. Eyewitnesses stated that the aircraft had taken off from a location along the M17, flew to Rosslyn, and encountered engine trouble on its return journey, ultimately crashing in a field close to its departure point.
