Mirra Andreeva and Elina Svitolina Clash in BNP Paribas Open Quarterfinals

INDIAN WELLS, California — Ninth seed Mirra Andreeva will take on 23rd seed Elina Svitolina in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The match will be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and has attracted considerable attention as both players are in strong form.
Andreeva, a rising star in women’s tennis, is currently enjoying a nine-match winning streak following her triumph at the Dubai Open. In her latest effort at Indian Wells, she defeated both Clara Tauson and Elena Rybakina, solidifying her reputation as a formidable competitor. With a current WTA ranking of No. 9, Andreeva aims to break into the top eight should she advance past Svitolina and if Qinwen Zheng falters against Iga Swiatek in her quarterfinal.
Svitolina, the Ukrainian player ranked 23rd in the world, is coming off a convincing victory against fourth seed Jessica Pegula in the fourth round, where she triumphed with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. This match marks Svitolina’s first quarterfinal appearance at a WTA 1000 event since the 2021 Miami Open. Notably, her journey in this tournament has included victories over 14th seed Danielle Collins, showcasing her resilience and competitive edge.
The two players have never faced each other before, leaving their head-to-head record at 0-0. Both are eager to secure a place in the semifinals, but Andreeva is viewed as the favorite, given her exceptional form and recent successes in the circuit.
In a recent analysis, data forecasts gave Andreeva a 71% likelihood of winning the match, according to Dimers, a predictive sports analysis service. “Taking into account recent performances, we simulated the match multiple times, and Andreeva consistently emerged as the likely winner,” said Greg Butyn, a data analyst for Dimers.
With a season record of 10-1 in WTA 1000 events, Andreeva looks to continue her impressive run. Conversely, Svitolina, who has a 17-10 win-loss record at Indian Wells, will strive to capitalize on her experience. Her best performance here came in 2019, where she reached the semifinals, defeating top players along the way.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will undoubtedly be on this highly anticipated match between the talented Andreeva and the determined Svitolina. Fans can catch the live telecast of the match on the Tennis Channel in the USA, Sky Sports in the UK, and TSN/DAZN in Canada.
