Miss Piggy Set for Solo Movie with Stars Lawrence and Stone
LOS ANGELES, CA – After over 50 years, the beloved Muppet character Miss Piggy is finally getting her own movie. Jennifer Lawrence announced the exciting news recently on the podcast Las Culturistas, revealing that she and Emma Stone are producing the film, with Cole Escola penning the script.
Lawrence stated, “I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to – Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.” The film marks the character’s first solo outing since her debut on The Muppet Show in 1976.
When asked if she and Stone would appear in the movie, Lawrence confirmed, “I think so, we have to.” However, she did not provide any plot details. The project is still in early development at Disney, which owns the rights to the Muppets.
Miss Piggy originated as a minor character on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s but eventually became a central figure, known for her glamorous lifestyle and tempestuous relationship with Kermit the Frog. Her character was created by Bonnie Erickson and Frank Oz.
In recent months, Disney has celebrated the Muppet franchise’s 70th anniversary, with upcoming projects including a reboot of The Muppet Show and a special episode featuring Sabrina Carpenter, set to premiere in 2026.
Lawrence, an Oscar-winning actress known for her roles in movies like Silver Linings Playbook, expressed enthusiasm about the project. She also discussed recent theatrical opportunities, revealing she considered starring in a Broadway play called Oh, Mary! before ultimately deciding against it.
The prospect of a Miss Piggy movie has sparked excitement among fans, eager to see the iconic diva return to the silver screen.
