Misty Copeland to Bid Farewell at Star-Studded Gala
NEW YORK, NY — After a remarkable career spanning over two decades, ballerina Misty Copeland is set to retire from the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). Copeland, who last graced the stage with the company five years ago, will be honored during a special Fall Gala on Wednesday.
The gala will feature tributes from notable figures such as Oprah Winfrey and Debbie Allen. During this final appearance, Copeland will perform excerpts from classic pieces including “Romeo and Juliet” and “Sinatra Suite.” Additionally, she will debut a new work choreographed by Kyle Abraham.
In a public statement shared before the event, Copeland expressed her ongoing commitment to inclusion in ballet. “Although I’ll be saying farewell to the stage, I’ll always be committed to opening doors, creating space, and making ballet a place where everyone belongs,” she wrote.
For fans unable to attend the $5,000 ticket gala, ABT is providing hundreds of free tickets for a live screening at Alice Tully Hall, located just a block from the main event.
