PM Modi Inaugurates India’s Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge Sudarshan Setu in Dwarka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sudarshan Setu, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka in the pilgrimage site of Dwarka. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The Sudarshan Setu features a unique design, with a footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides. This bridge, with a length of around 2.32 km, holds immense significance for both local residents and pilgrims visiting the revered Dwarkadhish Temple.
Beyt Dwarka, an island near Okha port and approximately 30 km from Dwarka town where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is situated, is now connected to the Okha mainland via the Sudarshan Setu. The bridge, previously known as the ‘Signature Bridge’, has been renamed as the ‘Sudarshan Setu’.
Initiated by the Centre in 2017 with a groundbreaking ceremony, the bridge aims to simplify access for devotees commuting between Okha and Beyt Dwarka. Before its construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach the Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt Dwarka, Dwarka.
Before the official inauguration of the bridge, various Priests in the Beyt Dwarka Temple expressed gratitude and excitement for the Sudarshan Setu. They praised the bridge as a solution to many problems faced by the villagers and lauded PM Modi‘s initiative in inclusive development.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the momentous occasion the Sudarshan Setu represents for Gujarat’s journey of growth and development. He emphasized how the bridge would enhance connectivity and accessibility for the local community and tourists visiting the region.
Aside from the bridge inauguration, PM Modi also unveiled and laid the foundation stone for several other projects in Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Porbandar districts. These projects included the electrification of a 533-km railway line and the inauguration of two offshore pipelines under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas at Vadinar.
