Cricketer Mohammed Siraj has officially taken up the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after his appointment by the Telangana state government. Siraj reported to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana on Friday, fulfilling a promise made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to recognize his contributions to sports with a Group-I government post.

The ceremony, attended by Member of Parliament (MP) M. Anil Kumar Yadav and Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society president Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, marked Siraj’s new role. The officials expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister for his unwavering support for athletes and the sports sector in the state. Mohammed Siraj expressed his appreciation for the honor and committed to serving the community in his new capacity.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has emphasized the Telangana government’s commitment to nurturing sports talent, with initiatives including the establishment of a sports university. The vision aims to integrate sports facilities across the state to foster the development of athletes.

Mohammed Siraj, known for his right-arm fast bowling, was born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, Telangana. Rising from humble beginnings, with his father working as an auto-rickshaw driver, Siraj began playing club cricket at the age of 19. He quickly showcased his talent by taking nine wickets in his first match for his uncle’s team in the Hyderabad Cricket Association.

Internationally acclaimed, Siraj was a key player in India‘s victory at the 2023 Asia Cup, where he was named Player of the Match for his performance. He further contributed to India’s success in winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. His performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), particularly with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and his domestic play for Hyderabad, have solidified his reputation as a leading cricketer.

The Telangana government has also allotted 600 square yards of land in Jubilee Hills to Mohammed Siraj in recognition of his achievements in cricket, further highlighting the state’s support for its sports stars.

The announcement of Siraj’s appointment as DSP and the allocation of land underscores the Telangana government’s broader efforts to support and promote sports and athletes within the state.
