Montreal Celebrates Quebecois Adaptation of French Classic ‘La Cage aux Folles’
Montreal was adorned in glitter and glamour on Tuesday night as it hosted the grand media premiere of a fully Quebecois adaptation of the renowned French classic, now staged at Studio-Cabaret of Espace St-Denis. The evening attracted a multitude of enthusiasts eager to witness this reimagined rendition of a staple theatrical piece.
Under the direction of Joël Legendre, actors Alex Perron and Marcel Leboeuf portray the characters of Albin and Georges, a gay couple running a drag queen cabaret in the heart of the Village. Their routine life is enlivened by the vibrant performances of their artists until the day when their son, on the verge of marriage, wishes to introduce his prospective in-laws – a rather conservative family, setting the stage for humorous situations and abundant misunderstandings.
Alongside the main duo, the cast features Delphine Morissette, Annie Brocoli, Guillaume Borys, Stéphan Allard, and Geneviève Brouillette, each bringing their unique flair to this colorful production. ‘La Cage aux Folles’ will be on stage in Montreal until November 16, with plans for a provincial tour following the Montreal performances.
A plethora of stars graced the red carpet for the premiere. Among them were Marie-Ève Janvier, Jean-François Breau, Patricia Paquin, Louis-François Marcotte, Sally Folk, Josée Lavigueur, Myriam LeBlanc, Jean-François Baril, Élyse Marquis, Alice Déry, Gabrielle Marion, Jean Airoldi, Clodine Desrochers, and Ève-Marie Lortie. Louis Morissette and Véronique Cloutier, along with their children, Justin and Raphaëlle, were also in attendance to support Delphine Morissette, featured in the show’s cast. Her partner, actor Anthony Bouchard, was also present to celebrate the occasion.
