Monumental Sports & Entertainment Celebrates Pride Month With Generous Donations And Events

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) and its affiliate professional sports teams are gearing up to celebrate Pride Month in the DMV region with generous donations and a series of exciting events.

Throughout the past fiscal year, MSE, in collaboration with partners like Giant and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, has donated over $60K to LGBTQ+ causes, supporting organizations like Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders (SMYAL).

Kimberly Harris, the Director of Community Health and Social Impact at CareFirst, expressed the commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community through collaboration with MSE and local organizations such as SMYAL.

To kick off the celebrations, MSE showcased a Pride graphics takeover at the Capital One Arena on May 30, with Pride graphics set to be displayed throughout June for public visibility in Downtown D.C.

The upcoming Washington Mystics‘ annual Pride Game, presented by Giant, is scheduled for June 22, promising an unapologetic celebration of the LGBTQ+ community with various in-game activities and community spotlights.

The Mystics will also host a special Pride-themed brunch before the game, in addition to donating $10,000 to a local LGBTQ+ nonprofit during the event.

Washington Wizards recently hosted their Pride Night, raising funds for SMYAL with initiatives like a pre-game block party and special Giants happy hour, with giant checks presented for community donations.

The Washington Capitals marked their eighth consecutive Pride Night with in-game LGBTQ+ themed content, rainbow avatars, and a $27,375 Pride auction, donating towards SMYAL and Team DC through MSE Foundation.

Under MSE’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategic focus, the Unity Employee Resource Group has been actively supporting LGBTQ+ staff and allies, with initiatives like pronouns guide, mandatory training, and charitable donations.
