ONTARIO, Canada — Morena Baccarin stars as Sheriff Mickey Fox in the new crime drama spinoff ‘Sheriff Country.’ The show follows Mickey as she leads a small town police force while dealing with her daughter’s struggle with addiction.

“It’s been so fun to understand law enforcement, to train in that way,” Baccarin said during a lunch break on the show’s set. She spoke during a Zoom video call where she shared her experiences with the role.

On set, Baccarin receives guidance on how to handle situations, such as when she suspects a threat while exiting her vehicle. “We always have somebody on set with us, helping us with things like if I’m suspecting somebody’s going to come at me and they’re potentially armed, how do I do it?” she explained.

Practice is key for Baccarin when it comes to using a firearm. She joked about her interactions with her co-star, Nathan Boone, saying, “Half of our time on set is spent practicing pulling the gun out, putting it back in.” Baccarin noted the importance of making handling the weapon instinctive for safety reasons.

Despite her training, she admits to having a fear of guns. “I’ve always been very scared of guns. I don’t own a gun,” she shared. “I believe if we didn’t have guns at all, then a lot of the stuff that we deal with would not be happening.” However, she also expressed newfound respect for the weapon through her training.

Baccarin revealed she was initially unsure about joining the show. She told producers she would only accept the role if filming was moved to the East Coast to be closer to her family in New York. “I 100% thought the job was going away once I said that,” she admitted, reflecting on the decision and how it set a positive foundation for her work relationship.

As a working mother in Hollywood, Baccarin balances family and her career. “You’re definitely letting somebody down sometimes, at all times,” she said, addressing the challenges of juggling work and motherhood. She emphasizes that pursuing her career makes her a better mom, despite the difficulties.

Known for her role as Vanessa Carlysle in the ‘Deadpool‘ films, Baccarin’s career continues to evolve. “It’s been such a long journey. I can’t believe it’s almost 10 years since we shot the first one,” she remarked about her experience in the superhero genre.

Her superhero roles expand further as she prepares to portray The Sorceress in an upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Masters of the Universe.’ She fondly recalled her childhood connection to He-Man, saying, “I grew up watching He-Man with my brother, so it was a really big part of my childhood.”

Baccarin expressed excitement about her character’s design in the film. “It was really cool once I got there and saw the costume. I’m so excited to see what they make of it,” she concluded, anticipating the project’s release.
