Moroccan-Registered Air Ambulance Crashes in Afghanistan, 2 Dead, 4 Survivors Retrieved by Taliban
A Moroccan-registered air ambulance crashed in Afghanistan on Saturday, resulting in the death of two passengers and leaving four survivors, who were later retrieved by Taliban representatives.
The aircraft, reportedly an air ambulance, was on a charter flight from Thailand‘s Utapao airport in Pattaya to Moscow, with a refuelling stop in India and Uzbekistan. It had made a refuelling stop at Gaya airport in Bihar, India, before continuing its journey to Moscow,
The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry clarified that the aircraft belonged to neither an Indian scheduled carrier nor a non-scheduled/charter aircraft. The ministry confirmed that the aircraft was a small plane registered in Morocco.
According to Russian aviation authorities, the plane disappeared from radar screens while flying over a mountainous region in Afghanistan’s far northern Badakhshan province. Afghan police had initially received reports of a crash in the area.
Following the crash, two Taliban officials in Badakhshan province confirmed the death toll of two passengers. They also stated that four passengers had survived the crash and were currently in the custody of Taliban administration representatives.
Afghan officials had already dispatched a team to the remote crash site to investigate the incident.
Further details and information about the cause of the crash are still awaited as authorities continue their investigations.
