Mother Arrested After Leaving Injured Daughter in DUI Crash
Tracy, California – A woman was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly walking away from a DUI crash on Interstate Highway 580, leaving her injured one-year-old daughter behind in the wreckage, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the solo-vehicle accident occurred around 3 a.m. on westbound 580 at the Grant Line Road off-ramp. Witnesses revealed that the driver exited the scene without contacting emergency responders, leaving her child in the vehicle with significant injuries.
Officers first encountered the woman after reports of a pedestrian on the highway. Due to her high level of alcohol intoxication, she did not initially disclose the crash, nor could she recall its location, according to the CHP.
Once questioned, officers tracked back to the crash scene at approximately 5:20 a.m., where they found the injured child had managed to escape the vehicle. The one-year-old was taken to Oakland Children’s Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The mother was arrested on multiple charges, including felony driving under the influence, felony child endangerment, and felony hit-and-run. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
