MrBeast’s Lunchly Faces Mold Controversy and FDA Scrutiny
Lunchly, the meal kit brand co-founded by YouTube personalities MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), Logan Paul, and KSI (Olajide Olatunji), is embroiled in a controversy over allegations of mold in its products. The issue came to light when baking YouTuber Rosanna Pansino uploaded a video on October 19, showing what appeared to be blue mold patches on the cheese in a Lunchly pizza kit. Pansino noted that the product was still within its expiration date and had been refrigerated promptly after purchase.
The FDA has confirmed that it has received more than 10 consumer complaints about Lunchly products, including one report of an illness potentially linked to the consumption of a Lunchly meal. The agency is currently reviewing these complaints and will determine if a health advisory is necessary to protect public health. The FDA emphasized that food producers must follow Current Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure product safety.
Lunchly has responded to the allegations, stating that all their products undergo a rigorous evaluation process, including multiple inspections and approvals from the USDA, before leaving the production facility. However, the company’s assurance has not quelled concerns, with many consumers and influencers expressing their dissatisfaction on social media.
Logan Paul and KSI have downplayed the controversy, suggesting during an episode of the “Impaulsive” podcast that the backlash might be an attempt to garner views and clicks at their expense. Despite this, the situation remains serious, with the FDA’s involvement indicating potential public health implications.
The controversy surrounding Lunchly is not the only challenge MrBeast is facing. He has also been involved in other controversies, including lawsuits from participants in his forthcoming reality competition series, Beast Games, and past backlash for racist and homophobic remarks.
