Multiple Incidents Prompt NYPD Response and Public Assistance Calls

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A series of incidents over the last week have prompted the NYPD to seek public assistance for information related to ongoing investigations, including a fatal police shooting and a violent assault.
In the latest incident, a man was fatally shot by NYPD officers early Friday morning at Bricktown Commons, located at 2750 Veterans Road West. Officers responded at 5:19 a.m. to reports of a man with a gun inside a Jeep in the parking lot near Home Depot. Law enforcement sources indicated that the unidentified man allegedly pointed a firearm at officers, leading them to discharge their weapons. He was transported to Staten Island University Hospital but later pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that two officers were taken to local hospitals for evaluation following the incident, but no injuries were reported. A large number of NYPD vehicles and personnel responded, cordoning off the area with caution tape.
The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, Emergency Service Unit, and Highway Patrol are involved in the inquiry, which remains a developing story as further details emerge.
Additionally, police are seeking information regarding a missing person case involving 70-year-old Marco Barrenechea, last seen exiting the Staten Island Ferry at the St. George Ferry Terminal on Friday around 7:30 p.m. Barrenechea, a Broad Street resident, was reported wearing a blue hat, a red flannel jacket, black pants, and black boots. The NYPD has released a photo of Barrenechea to aid in locating him.

Another concerning case involves a violent assault in the Bronx, where a 33-year-old man was stabbed multiple times on Tuesday around 9 a.m. The assault took place in front of 4048 White Plains Road. The attacker fled the scene on foot, while the victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. Surveillance photos of the suspect have been released.
