Multiple Shot at Young Park in Las Cruces, Police Investigate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots fired at Young Park late Friday evening, leading to an active investigation and local emergency services on scene, according to KFOX. The exact number of victims remains unconfirmed amid conflicting reports of injuries and fatalities.

Eyewitness accounts and social media reports indicate at least five individuals may have been shot, but authorities have not confirmed any exact figures. Videos circulating from the location show a heavy police presence as officers cordoned off the area. A tweet from breaking news handle @rawsalerts stated, “Local news outlets report that at least five people, possibly more, have been shot, though the exact number of injuries and fatalities remains unclear. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Gabriel Padilla, was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition. Chief Story confirmed, “When he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.” Padilla faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
