On this particular Thursday, the results of the “DEAR MAHANADI MORNING” at 1 PM, “DEAR DANCER EVENING” at 6 PM, and “DEAR SANDPIPER NIGHT” at 8 PM were announced.
Lotteries are legal in 13 Indian states, including Nagaland, where they are considered a means of raising government revenue while offering citizens a chance of a financial windfall. These states also include West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Mizoram, Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam. Each lottery offers substantial prizes, with the first prize amounting to Rs 1 crore.
The prize structure announced for the Nagaland lotteries includes a second prize of Rs 9,000, a third prize of Rs 450, a fourth prize of Rs 250, and a fifth prize of Rs 120. In addition, a consolation prize of Rs 1,000 is also awarded. The results are broadcast live and shared frequently on platforms such as Zee News, keeping eager participants informed.
According to the regulations laid down by the Directorate of Nagaland State Lotteries, which was established in 1972 under the supervision of the state’s Finance Department, winners of prizes exceeding Rs 10,000 are required to pay taxes on their winnings. The tax deduction is enforced as per Section 194B of The Income-tax Act, 1961. The standard deduction is set at 30%, with additional charges applicable as per the winner’s residency status.
Participants are advised to claim their winnings responsibly. For claims exceeding Rs 10,000, winners are directed to submit the necessary forms and documents at the Nagaland Office located in Kolkata. The official website of the Nagaland Lotteries provides necessary details and forms to facilitate prize claims.
The Nagaland lottery, alongside lotteries from Sikkim and West Bengal, continues to capture the interest of many, combining traditional practices with modern approaches. While some view it as an opportunity for financial relief, others criticize it for its potential in fostering gambling addiction.
