No New IRS Stimulus Checks Scheduled for 2024 Despite Viral Rumors
A recent viral social media post has sparked confusion among Americans, claiming that taxpayers in several US states will receive a $2,000 government stimulus check as the holiday season begins. However, this rumor has been debunked by official sources.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has clarified that no new economic stimulus payments are scheduled. The IRS issued three rounds of Economic Impact Payments during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the last round distributed nearly three years ago.
The IRS website states, “The IRS has issued all first, second, and third Economic Impact Payments. You can no longer use the Get My Payment application to check your payment status.” While most eligible individuals have already received their payments, those who missed a stimulus payment can still claim it on a future tax return through the Recovery Rebate Credit. The deadline to file and claim the 2021 credit is April 15, 2025.
Despite the resurgence of this rumor following Donald Trump‘s election as the 47th president of the United States, there has been no official announcement from the IRS or any other government agency regarding new stimulus checks for 2024.
Residents are advised to rely only on official departmental sources for accurate information regarding any potential future stimulus payments, as other claims circulating online are unfounded and unreliable).
