SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – A new wildfire, dubbed the ‘Little Mountain Fire,’ erupted Wednesday afternoon in San Bernardino County, threatening nearby structures and prompting a rapid response from firefighters. The blaze ignited around 2:44 p.m. near Little Mountain Drive and West Edgehill Road, northeast of the junction between the 210 and 215 freeways.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, the fire quickly grew to 30 acres, fueled by dry vegetation and spreading at a rapid rate. Fire officials warned that structures could be threatened within 20 minutes, leading to the declaration of a second alarm to bolster firefighting efforts.

The fire is burning through ‘light flashy fuels,’ which are highly combustible materials like dry grass and brush, according to the agency’s social media updates. A Red Flag Warning, indicating heightened fire danger due to dry and windy conditions, was in effect in the area until 6 p.m.

No further details about the cause of the fire or potential evacuations were immediately available. This incident follows another small brush fire in June, which was contained to 20 acres. The cause of that fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters are working to contain the blaze as additional resources are deployed to the area. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
