New Thriller ‘Dangerous Animals’ Swims into Theaters This June

SYDNEY, Australia — The new thriller ‘Dangerous Animals’ is set to hit theaters on June 6. Directed by Sean Byrne, this film takes audiences on a wild ride of suspense, featuring a shark-themed plot filled with unexpected twists.
In the movie, Jai Courtney stars as Tucker, a shark-diving boat captain who takes two Canadian tourists on a cage diving adventure. However, things take a dark turn when Tucker reveals his sinister side. Heather (Ella Newton) and her partner Greg (Liam Greinke) find themselves in grave danger when Tucker unexpectedly attacks Greg, leading to a shocking twist.
Byrne’s film is said to both homage and parody classic shark movies, incorporating elements of horror and dark comedy. Critics note that the film leans heavily into B-movie territory, utilizing exaggerated scenarios and over-the-top violence to elicit both thrills and laughter from audiences.
Hassie Harrison plays Zephyr, a surfer who gets kidnapped by Tucker. Her character is described as strong and independent, having grown up in foster care. The storyline centers around her escape and the aftermath of her abduction, with Moses (Josh Heuston), a real estate broker, desperate to find her.
The film balances moments of gruesome violence with a humorous undertone, particularly highlighted when Tucker engages the tourists in a singalong of ‘Baby Shark’ to quell Heather’s nerves. Critics have mixed feelings about the film’s execution, with some praising the performances while others point to lapses in logic and pacing.
‘Dangerous Animals’ runs for 97 minutes and has been rated R due to its graphic content and language. It aims to deliver both entertainment and horror, reflecting the time-honored tradition of shark movies since the iconic ‘Jaws‘ was released 50 years ago.
With bloodshed and dark humor, ‘Dangerous Animals’ might have its own place in the world of shark-themed thrillers, appealing to fans of the genre.
