New York City Prepares For 236th St. Patrick's Day Parade On Fifth Avenue

New York City is gearing up for the 236th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade set to sweep through the vibrant streets of Manhattan. This longstanding tradition is the world’s oldest St. Patrick’s Day celebration, dating back to 1762, with an estimated 150,000 participants and two million onlookers anticipated.

The iconic parade route will span approximately 35 blocks along Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, commencing at 44th Street and concluding near 79th Street. Notable landmarks like St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Central Park will be graced by the parade’s colorful festivities.

Spectators are advised to arrive early to secure prime viewing spots along Fifth Avenue. The parade, traditionally held on a Sunday, has been rescheduled to Saturday in observance of the sabbath, marching from 11 a.m. until around 4:30 p.m.

Weather forecasts indicate clear conditions for Saturday’s event, providing an ideal backdrop for the jubilant procession. However, Sunday’s projected rain may affect the Staten Island parade, prompting attendees to plan accordingly.

For those seeking pre-parade entertainment, the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan will host a series of family-friendly activities, encompassing music and dance demonstrations, language lessons, and cultural insights. In Kips Bay, Sober St. Patrick’s Day will offer alcohol-free festivities centered around traditional Irish musical performances.

On a more glamorous note, the American Museum of Natural History will debut its striking exhibit ‘Garden of Green,’ showcasing exquisite jewelry pieces from the acclaimed collection of Van Cleef & Arpels.

Post-parade revelries will continue with the inclusive celebration titled ‘St. Patrick’s For All’ aimed at welcoming diverse groups under the St. Patrick’s Day banner. Street closures in New York City have been announced to accommodate the parade route and related activities, ensuring a smooth flow of the event.
