Island Heat Wave: Environment Canada Issues Heat Warnings for East Vancouver Island

Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for East Vancouver Island, with temperatures expected to hit the low 30s for several communities along the Island’s East Coast.

In Nanaimo, temperatures are forecasted to reach above 30°C, while Courtenay is also expected to experience temperatures around the 30°C mark.

The alert comes as a ridge of high pressure moves into the region, bringing very high temperatures starting Friday with evening lows near 16 degrees.

While the warning is specific to East Vancouver Island, temperatures are projected to rise across the Island, with Victoria expecting highs around 32°C and 34°C this weekend.

Environment Canada advises people to watch for signs of heat-related illness, such as heavy sweating, cramps, and high body temperatures, and seek refuge in air-conditioned spaces or cooling stations.

WorkSafeBC has also issued an advisory in light of the heatwave, emphasizing the importance of heat stress prevention measures for outdoor workers.
