Sharp Cold Front Brings Flash Freeze Warning Across Eastern Ontario And Quebec

Environment Canada has issued a flash freeze warning for most of Eastern Ontario and a significant portion of Quebec as a sharp cold front is expected to bring a dramatic temperature drop.

The warning extends from the southern city of Kingston, Ontario, to the northern region of Caniapiscau in Quebec’s Côte-Nord area.

By Wednesday evening, Ottawa is anticipated to plummet to a low of -13 degrees Celsius, accompanied by possible rain showers or flurries.

Environment Canada cautions residents to exercise caution as surfaces like highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may quickly become icy and slippery due to the rapid temperature change.

Record-breaking temperatures have already been observed in several Ontario communities such as Belleville, Kemptville, and Picton. Ottawa is also projected to break a temperature record, with a forecasted high of 14 degrees Celsius before the flash freeze sets in, surpassing the previous record of 9.9 degrees Celsius set in 2018.

Experts at Environment Canada attribute the mild winter this year to a combination of climate change and the influence of El Niño, a weather pattern known to affect global temperatures.

With contributions from meteorologist Mario Carlucci, the cautionary flash freeze warning serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns in the region.
