Nicole Eggert Cancer Journey

Actress Nicole Eggert, widely recognized for her role in the television series “Baywatch,” has recently shared significant news about her ongoing battle with breast cancer. Eggert, aged 52, disclosed that she underwent a single mastectomy following a diagnosis of stage 2 cribriform carcinoma in December 2023. Throughout her battle with the illness, she has consistently shared her experiences publicly, offering her latest update during an appearance on the “Amy & T.J.” podcast.

During the podcast, hosted by TV anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, Eggert detailed her recent surgical procedure and the future steps in her treatment plan. “I did eight months of treatment. I just had a mastectomy six days ago, and I will go back on treatment,” Eggert stated. She further explained her decision to undergo a single mastectomy rather than a double, based on her doctor’s advice to expedite her return to treatment and preserve her immune system.

Eggert shared her doctor’s reasoning: “He said, ‘I know you want the double, but we also need to get you back into treatment. So, let’s do the single—it will keep your immune system up higher than if we take both. You’ll be able to get into treatment quicker, we have less chance of infection and a quicker healing time.'” The actress, who discovered her cancer through a self-exam after mammograms and ultrasounds failed to detect it, urged listeners to be vigilant with self-examinations as well as regular mammograms.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Eggert emphasized, “and I urge listeners ‘to do it all’—attend mammograms, perform self-exams, and visit the gynecologist.” She aims to inspire others by stressing the importance of both personal awareness and medical screenings to improve early detection rates.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Eggert remains focused on her upcoming path, which includes receiving the pathology report from her surgery and continuing treatment for an additional three months before undergoing further scans. She mentioned wearing a temporary prosthetic for the time being and prioritizing treatment over breast reconstruction.

In conjunction with her cancer battle, Eggert is working on the production of “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” a docuseries featuring interviews and previously unseen footage from the iconic 90s show. Eggert credited the project with giving her life and a vital sense of purpose during her fight against cancer.

The actress’s public revelations come as part of a broader advocacy effort toward breast cancer awareness and prevention. Newsweek has reached out to Eggert’s representatives for further comment on her journey and advocacy work.
