Nicole Kidman Mourns Mother’s Passing with Family Support
Nicole Kidman was surrounded by her close family as she bid a final farewell to her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, at a funeral service held in Sydney, Australia. The service took place on Tuesday at St Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay. The “Babygirl” actress, aged 57, was comforted by her husband, musician Keith Urban, and their daughters, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Kidman, along with her husband, appeared somber as they exited the church hand in hand. Both wore dark attire suitable for the occasion, with Nicole in a long black coat and sunglasses. Their daughter Sunday was visibly emotional, seen wiping away tears during the service.
Nicole’s sister, Antonia Kidman, was also present, accompanied by her children Lucia, Hamish, and Sybella, from her marriage to the late Angus Hawley. Nicole expressed gratitude for the support she received following her mother’s passing. “My sister and I, along with our family, want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” she stated on Instagram.
This tragic event occurred shortly before Nicole was set to receive the Best Actress award at the Venice International Film Festival for her role in “Babygirl.” Unable to attend the ceremony, her director, Halina Reijn, accepted the award on her behalf, reading a statement in which Kidman dedicated the honor to her late mother. “She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me,” the statement recounted.
Janelle’s passing is a reminder of previous losses in Nicole’s life, including her father, Antony Kidman, who died of a heart attack in Singapore in 2014. In interviews, Nicole has spoken about the suddenness of these losses, expressing fear of experiencing it again. “I’ve been given death as a very sudden thing,” Kidman shared with the Sydney Morning Herald in 2020.
The Kidman-Urban family was seen at Sydney International Airport on Thursday, likely heading back to the United States where they have residences. Friends and family, including Australian TV personality Peter Overton, attended the funeral to support the family during their time of grieving.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban continue to navigate this personal loss with the support of their family and friends, while the global community extends its condolences.
