The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is set to implement the digitalised central motor registry (e-CMR) enforcement starting from July 29, according to a recent announcement. This initiative, aimed at enhancing security measures in the country, will introduce a real-time online database to aid police investigations concerning vehicle-related crimes.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the official spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, shared that the e-CMR will play a vital role in combating various crimes, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery. The move is part of the efforts led by IGP Kayode Egbetokun to fortify the safety and security framework of the nation.

The e-CMR will serve as an advanced repository of motor vehicle data, enabling seamless verification and enhancing the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles effectively. Adejobi urged vehicle owners to complete the digitalised CMR certification process online at cmris.npf.gov.ng before the enforcement commences.

With the implementation of the e-CMR system, essential services like ownership transfers, license number changes, and engine or body modifications will be streamlined. This digitisation is expected to validate vehicle authenticity, prevent unwitting buyers from acquiring stolen vehicles, and significantly reduce the prevalence of vehicle theft in the country.

Before the enforcement begins, the IGP has instructed thorough public awareness campaigns to educate all citizens about the e-CMR, its requirements, processes, and the impending enforcement protocols. This strategic move underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to leverage technology and enhance public safety and national security.
