Nintendo Acquires Bandai Namco Studios Singapore to Expand Development
Tokyo, Japan – Nintendo has confirmed that it will acquire Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, planning to rename it Nintendo Studios Singapore. This move aims to enhance Nintendo’s development capabilities, particularly in in-game art, worldbuilding, and asset creation.
The acquisition, set to unfold in two phases, will see Nintendo acquire an 80 percent stake on April 1, 2026, with the remainder purchased once operations stabilize. This transition will help Nintendo integrate a talented team that has worked closely with them on popular titles, including the Splatoon series.
Bandai Namco Studios Singapore has a strong reputation for producing high-quality in-game assets, supporting several major franchises, such as Splatoon 3, Tekken, and Ace Combat. Founded in 2013, the studio has been a crucial part of Bandai Namco’s development efforts abroad.
Nintendo noted the acquisition was a strategic decision, aiming to strengthen its global development structure. As a current shareholder in Bandai Namco Holdings, Nintendo sees this move as a way to deepen its partnership while gaining direct access to a skilled art-focused team in Southeast Asia.
The acquisition aligns with Nintendo’s recent efforts to expand its presence in Singapore, further solidifying its commitment to the Southeast Asian market. Nintendo mentioned that the financial impact on the current fiscal year would be minimal, but the long-term benefits for global development are expected to be significant.
With Bandai Namco Studios Singapore becoming a part of Nintendo’s operational framework, the team will continue to contribute to future projects. This acquisition highlights Nintendo’s investment in high-quality game development with a globally distributed talent pool, ensuring they adapt to rising demands within the gaming industry.
