Nintendo Releases Mario Kart World Update 1.1.2, Changes Course Selection Mechanics

REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo has rolled out a new update for its racing game, Mario Kart World, bumping it up to Version 1.1.2. This patch, released earlier this month, brings several adjustments and resolves various issues reported by players during races.
Dataminer OatmealDome shared insights on the update, noting that the random course selection feature has been modified. The update now allows the Random option to choose from courses present in-game, including those with intermission sections. Although it still can send players to a random course with three laps, the added option may change player strategy in selecting tracks.
Prior to this update, players have been choosing Random as the only way to guarantee playing a full course, as selecting a specific course would often lead to only partial races due to intermission formats. Some users expressed frustration, claiming the current mode complicates access to traditional three-lap races, which many prefer.
In the comments section of various gaming forums, players shared mixed reactions about the update. Some indicated their approval of longer play experiences with intermissions, while others lamented the difficulty of finding straightforward races in the hectic online environment.
One player mentioned, “The game officially has 32 courses, but with intermissions and alternative modes, it feels much larger. Still, I prefer a classic race setup.” Others voiced their concern that the changes could alienate fans who enjoy a more standard racing experience.
Despite the controversies, the update focused on improving gameplay and fixing bugs that affected the racing experience. Nintendo is expected to continue updates that cater to fan feedback regarding game mechanics.
Overall, this update marks another step in Nintendo’s ongoing support of the new Mario Kart World game following the Switch 2‘s release, which continues to have strong fan engagement since its launch.
