Noah Kahan and Sam Fender Team Up for Emotional Collaboration ‘Homesick’
Noah Kahan, the American singer-songwriter, has joined forces with British artist Sam Fender to release a heartfelt version of Kahan’s track ‘Homesick’. The collaboration is part of Kahan’s ongoing Stick Season series, where he collaborates with different artists.
‘Homesick’, a fan-favorite during Kahan’s live shows, explores his complex relationship with his Vermont hometown. Fender, known for his lyrics about growing up in the working-class town of North Shields in England’s northeast, adds a new dimension to the track.
Kahan expressed his admiration for Fender’s music, stating, ‘When I first heard Sam Fender’s music, I couldn’t stop listening. His song ‘Dead Boys’ resonated with me on a deep level. Despite growing up in different places, the emotions he portrayed in his lyrics were so relatable.’
The collaboration came to fruition when Kahan and Fender met in Newcastle, Fender’s hometown. Kahan shared his initial apprehension, but Fender welcomed him with open arms, showing him the significant places in the community that inspired his music.
‘Homesick’ was born out of Kahan’s newfound confidence after listening to Fender’s ‘Seventeen Going Under’. He was inspired by Fender’s ability to authentically capture the essence of his own hometown, and decided to do the same in his own song.
The songwriting process took place in Guilford, Vermont, where Kahan and Fender shared their experiences and memories of their respective hometowns. Fender added his own touch to ‘Homesick’, elevating the emotional journey portrayed in the lyrics.
The collaboration between Noah Kahan and Sam Fender offers fans a poignant exploration of the desire to escape hometowns while simultaneously feeling a strong connection to them. Kahan hopes that the song resonates with listeners and allows them to find their own personal connection within the music.
