Non-Credible Threat Causes Lockdown at Bel Air High School

BEL AIR, Md. — A non-credible threat led to a lockdown Friday morning at Bel Air High School, police said. The school was placed on lockdown after authorities received a call regarding an individual who claimed they “intended personal harm,” according to Harford County Public Schools.
In response to the call, officials initiated a lockdown to ensure student safety. The school safety liaison and law enforcement quickly swept the building and restrooms. Regional security coordinators were also dispatched to support the school during this tense situation.
Harford County Public Schools communicated with the school community, urging parents and students to stay calm while the lockdown was in effect. “We will provide additional information as we can and ask for your help in keeping students calm and understanding the need to conduct a lockdown at this time,” the district stated.
At 12:19 p.m., local authorities announced that the lockdown had been lifted after determining the call was not credible. An updated statement from HCPS confirmed that police were clearing the building and that instruction would resume shortly.
No individuals were found in the building, and law enforcement officials stated they would pursue the origin of the phone call that initiated the lockdown. No further information has been released at this time.
