North Carolina Lineworkers In Action

BOONE, N.C. — Blue Ridge Energy is recognizing the critical work of line technicians who maintain the electric grid for affordable power to homes and businesses. As part of this effort, the cooperative is joining others across North Carolina to celebrate Lineworker Appreciation Day, designated by Governor Josh Stein.

Proclaimed on the second Monday in April, Lineworker Appreciation Day honors the dedicated lineworkers who ensure safe and reliable electricity throughout the state. Governor Stein emphasized the vital role that lineworkers play in powering homes, schools, and businesses across communities in his proclamation.

“Their commitment to public service is unmatched,” Stein said. “Lineworkers work tirelessly through adverse weather and difficult conditions to keep electricity flowing, often putting their own safety on the line.”

The acknowledgment comes at a time when many electric cooperatives are facing increasing challenges with reliability due to weather events and aging infrastructure. Blue Ridge Energy, which serves more than 77,000 members in the High Country, is dedicated to improving its service and infrastructure investment.

“We’re proud to celebrate our lineworkers, whose hard work is essential to our daily lives,” said Blue Ridge Energy’s CEO, Doug Johnson. “Their dedication ensures that power is available when our communities need it the most.”

In recent years, Blue Ridge Energy has increased efforts to enhance maintenance and upgrade technology to better serve its customers. The cooperative has also invested in training programs to improve safety and efficiency among its workforce, part of its strategy to adapt to modern energy needs.

Throughout Lineworker Appreciation Day, communities are encouraged to express gratitude to lineworkers. Local schools are participating in activities, and businesses have been invited to recognize the contributions of these essential workers.

“Celebrating our lineworkers strengthens our community bonds and highlights their vital role,” said a spokesperson from Blue Ridge Energy. “We encourage everyone to take a moment to appreciate those who keep the lights on.”
