Northeast Rain Forecast May 2025

BOSTON, MA – The Northeast is preparing for a series of rainstorms this week, coinciding with celebrations for Cinco de Mayo. Starting today, residents can expect heavy rain and cooler temperatures.

The weather pattern, identified as an ‘omega block,’ has caused low pressure to become stationary, sending moisture up the eastern seaboard. According to meteorologists, this will bring rounds of rain from today through Wednesday.

‘We expect the steadiest rain to occur today and tomorrow, with a break on Wednesday before more rain returns for the weekend,’ a local weather forecaster said. Rainfall totals could reach up to six inches in some areas, prompting concerns about potential flooding in parts of Connecticut, New York, and Long Island.

Southeastern Massachusetts has already experienced significant rainfall, with some regions reporting over an inch in recent days. Rain is expected to continue, and with lingering fog, conditions will remain damp throughout the week.

Temperatures will struggle to rise above the 50s today, with predictions for slightly warmer weather midweek, reaching the low to mid-60s. However, the rain will persist, affecting plans for outdoor activities.

‘I am hopeful for a decent Mother’s Day,’ the forecaster added. ‘With any luck, we will see some sunshine that day, which would be a pleasant change.’
