NVIDIA to Invest $100 Billion in OpenAI for AI Infrastructure

BENGALURU, India – NVIDIA announced plans on September 22, 2025, to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, marking a significant step in their strategic partnership aimed at deploying 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA technology for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure. This partnership will better equip OpenAI to develop and run advanced AI models.

The companies signed a letter of intent to formalize their collaboration, with the initial phase of this deployment expected to launch in the second half of 2026. Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s CEO, emphasized the milestone of this investment, stating, “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward – deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman echoed Huang’s sentiments, noting, “Everything starts with compute. Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future.” He emphasized the partnership’s aim to create new AI breakthroughs and enhance accessibility for users and businesses.

Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s cofounder and president, highlighted the long-standing relationship with NVIDIA, mentioning their collaboration since OpenAI’s early days. “We’re excited to deploy 10 gigawatts of compute with NVIDIA to push back the frontier of intelligence,” he added.

The partnership also aims to optimize OpenAI’s model and infrastructure software alongside NVIDIA’s hardware. OpenAI currently boasts over 700 million weekly active users and hopes this strategic alliance will solidify its goal of building artificial general intelligence that benefits humanity.

NVIDIA expects to finalize the partnership details shortly. This collaboration comes as companies worldwide invest heavily in cloud computing capabilities to propel advancements in AI technology, indicating a robust future for both enterprises.
