Ohio Severe Weather Awareness Sirens Test Drill

OHIO, March 18, 2025 — Ohio officials will activate warning sirens statewide at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, as part of the annual Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Beginning on March 16, each day of the week features a specific theme aimed at educating residents about severe weather preparedness, covering topics from Preparation and Planning to Severe Thunderstorms and Flooding.

“Severe weather can impact Ohio at any time of the year, and Severe Weather Awareness Week is a great time to learn about severe weather and how to prepare for it,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “Being prepared ahead of a disaster is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.”

Ohio residents are encouraged to participate in this statewide drill, which serves as an opportunity to practice emergency sheltering plans. Counties across Ohio may sound and test their outdoor warning sirens and mass notification systems during this time.

Schools, households, and businesses are also encouraged to conduct their tornado drills and review emergency plans. “The statewide tornado drill gives Ohioans a chance to practice safe sheltering before a real severe weather event,” said Sima Merick, Executive Director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. “We encourage all Ohioans to be prepared – stay safe and know what to do when severe weather strikes.”
