Oklahoma City Cold Weather January 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma residents woke up to the coldest morning of the season Tuesday, with wind chills plummeting to -20°F in parts of the state. Meteorologist Jonathan Conder of KOCO 5 warned that temperatures would remain below freezing throughout the day, with extreme cold warnings in effect for northwestern Oklahoma.

“Respect the cold air this morning,” Conder said during his broadcast. “We’ve already seen wind chills in northwestern Oklahoma around 20 below zero. It will get better today, but I don’t have us getting above freezing for Oklahoma City.”

Early morning temperatures in Oklahoma City hovered around 7°F, with wind chills making it feel like 3 to 5 degrees below zero. Despite sunny skies, air temperatures were not expected to rise above freezing, with highs in the lower 30s. Winds shifting to the south provided little relief, and nighttime lows were forecast to drop into the teens and 20s.

Cold weather advisories were issued for several counties, with northwestern Oklahoma under an extreme cold warning. Conder emphasized the importance of dressing appropriately for the conditions, especially with wind chills expected to remain a factor through Wednesday morning.

Looking ahead, another cold front is expected to move in late Wednesday, keeping temperatures well below average for the rest of the week. However, a brief warm-up is anticipated by Friday, with highs reaching the 40s and 50s before another drop in temperatures over the weekend. Snow chances are also expected to increase, adding to the challenges for residents.

Conder urged viewers to stay informed about road conditions and weather updates as the week progresses. “Join us when KOCO 5 News comes on,” he said. “I’ll show you everything you need to know to get through the workweek and your upcoming weekend.”
