Olimpia’s Coach Prepares for Crucial Semifinal Match Against Cartaginés

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — With less than 24 hours before the semifinal match of the Copa Centroamericana against Cartaginés, Olimpia‘s head coach, Eduardo Espinel, held a press conference to discuss the upcoming game.
The Uruguayan coach emphasized that his team should not dwell on their first-leg victory of 2-1, stating that they should be cautious and not underestimate the Costa Rican side. “We have adrenaline, but not fear. If we were afraid, we wouldn’t be here,” he said.
Espinel urged his players to leave the past behind. “Forget about the last match. We must do a good job, take responsibility, and look for the win,” he added. He reflected on the performance in Costa Rica, noting that the first half was stronger for his team, but they lost intensity in the second.
When asked about the rivalry between Costa Rica and Honduras, Espinel acknowledged the excitement it brings. “This folklore is part of football,” he said. “We have to take responsibility and aim to advance to the semifinals.”
As Olimpia prepares for the Concachampions, Espinel expressed enthusiasm for the support expected at the match, highlighting the significance of the tournament for the region. “Nerves, anxiety, and a lot of commitment are part of this experience,” he said. “You don’t play in such competitions every day.”
On the topic of the recent elimination of another Honduran team, Motagua, Espinel declined to comment on rival teams, stating, “I’m focused on Olimpia. The farther we go, the more they will talk about Honduran football.”
To the Olimpia fans, he conveyed gratitude for their support, mentioning that most tickets have already sold out. “It’s good for Honduran football. We must channel our game with their support,” he said. “We are striving towards becoming champions, and that’s the goal.”
