Omaha Storms Weather Forecast April Evening

OMAHA, Neb. — Spotty storms are approaching Omaha this evening, prompting local weather officials to issue a warning of potential small hail and high winds. According to the National Weather Service, the forecasted storms are expected to sweep through the area tonight, with a chance of rain increasing between 10:30 PM and midnight.

Chief Meteorologist Bill Randby reported that the storms are moving in from the west and could pass through the metropolitan area shortly. Initial forecasts indicate that areas north of Omaha will see increased activity, with storm chances tapering off southward into Bellevue and Plattsmouth.

The Douglas County Emergency Management Agency has addressed concerns regarding a recent activation of tornado sirens, noting that the sirens had sounded in error. “There is no active siren threat at this time,” said the agency in a statement. They reassured residents that while thunderstorm warnings are active, the situation does not warrant siren activation.

Weather models show the storms are expected to clear Omaha by early morning, leaving behind comfortable weather for Earth Day on Tuesday. Temperatures reached a high of 75 degrees today, slightly warmer than the average, while the low tonight is projected to be around 51 degrees. Rainfall for April has been below average, with just 0.7 inches recorded to date.

As a precaution against the potential storm, meteorologist Laurel McCoy advised residents to take protective measures for their vehicles from possible hail damage. Residents are also encouraged to use multiple channels to stay updated on severe weather alerts.

While the storms may disrupt the evening plans, Tuesday is expected to bring beautiful weather, with lighter winds and clear skies throughout the day. Local forecasts suggest temperatures could reach 75 degrees again, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities.

There is a likelihood of additional rain late Tuesday night and into Wednesday, with some models predicting a significant system moving into the area for the late week, further aiding soil moisture levels during this dry spring season.
