BOSTON, Massachusetts — A series of powerful winter storms is set to sweep across the United States this week, bringing widespread snow, ice, and travel disruptions to millions of Americans, according to the FOX Forecast Center. The active weather pattern follows a weekend of wintry conditions that blanketed parts of the Northeast, with more severe weather expected in the days ahead.

The FOX Forecast Center has identified at least three separate storm systems that will impact the country this week. The first system, developing over the Plains on Monday, will bring heavy snow and ice to the central Plains, Midwest, and eventually the Northeast. Winter storm alerts are in effect for over 20 million people, with areas like Kansas, Missouri, and Virginia under Winter Storm Watches through Wednesday.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly declared a state of emergency Sunday, urging residents to prepare for the storms. “Kansans have faced challenges due to winter storms this year,” Kelly said. “The key to meeting those challenges is to be prepared. I urge all Kansans to make sure their homes and vehicles are ready with emergency kits and plans.”

The second storm system will develop over the Plains by midweek, spreading snow into the South and Northeast by Thursday. Forecasters warn this system could deliver the highest snow totals, with heavy snow possible from the Plains to the Northeast. The FOX Forecast Center said snow totals could reach up to 6 inches in some areas, though exact totals remain uncertain.

A third storm is expected to form late in the week, bringing another round of winter weather to the Plains, Midwest, and Northeast through the weekend. This relentless pattern could extend into next week, though forecasts remain less certain for the later storms.

Cities like Boston, New York, and Chicago experienced snowfall over the weekend, with Central Park in New York receiving 3 inches of snow. Crews across the Northeast continue to treat roads and sidewalks as residents enjoy the winter scenery. However, the upcoming storms pose significant travel risks, with forecasters encouraging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay informed through weather alerts.
