Pastor Shepherd Bushiri Faces Auction as City Tries to Recoup Over R10 Million Debt
Pastor Shepherd Bushiri is back in the news, but this time it’s not for his sermons. The City of Johannesburg is stepping up its efforts to auction off his properties in a bid to recover over R10 million that he owes.
The city has been attempting to track down Bushiri for months but has not had any success so far. Now, they are making it clear that they are serious about collecting the money he owes.
Along with the R10 million debt to the city, Bushiri is also dealing with an additional claim of R1 million. A company called PPS Property Fund has announced that it is taking legal action against him for failing to pay rent on his church’s headquarters.
PPS Property Fund has been in talks with the Master of the High Court and is looking to obtain an order to auction off Bushiri’s assets to settle the debt. They claim he breached his lease agreement, which is the basis for their legal actions.
It’s not just his financial troubles that Bushiri is facing. He has a serious laundry list of legal issues including charges of money laundering and fraud. All of this comes after he fled South Africa and is currently in Malawi.
According to the city, Bushiri has ignored his legal obligations by not paying taxes and debts, and they want to remind him that he is not above the law.
