Patriots Eye Potential Trades Ahead of Deadline Amid Playoff Hopes

Foxborough, Massachusetts – The New England Patriots are in a prime position to become playoff contenders this season. With a 4-2 record, they lead the AFC East and boast the easiest remaining schedule in the NFL, as only three of their upcoming opponents have winning records.
Defensively, the Patriots have been impressive, allowing fewer points per game than all but six teams in the league. These factors have sparked speculation ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4, as fans wonder which positions the Patriots might target for upgrades.
Dianna Russini, a senior NFL insider with The Athletic, joined Phil Perry on the Next Pats Podcast to discuss potential trade scenarios impacting the Patriots. One player drawing attention is disgruntled Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has been the focus of mounting trade rumors. However, Russini notes that Philadelphia has reportedly rebuffed inquiries regarding Brown’s availability.
“I can tell you Philadelphia is telling teams they are not moving him,” Russini stated, while suggesting that the situation could change if the Eagles continue to lose. “If Brown’s frustration grows, it might lead to a different outcome.”
Despite their need for depth at the running back position, Russini believes the Patriots may not pursue reinforcements there. Following Antonio Gibson’s season-ending injury, the team is relying on Rhamondre Stevenson, rookie TreVeyon Henderson, and Terrell Jennings. “Teams I’ve talked to who I know are trying to move their running backs have not received calls from New England,” noted Russini.
Currently, the defense appears to be a priority for potential trades. “If New England’s going to be making a move, it would be on the defensive side of the ball,” Russini explained.
As the Bengals potentially brace for a shift in strategy after a four-game losing streak, other teams, including the Patriots, may look into trade discussions regarding defensive players like pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.
“Teams are gonna call on Hendrickson,” says NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Although the Bengals are unlikely to hold a “fire sale,” they may reconsider if their losing streak continues.
New England’s roster decisions hinge on evaluating how much better their defensive front could be with an edge rusher like Hendrickson. As the landscape continues to shift, the Patriots remain vigilant as they strategize for the future.
