Patriots Edge Rusher Harold Landry

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots are gearing up for a pivotal offseason as they look to revamp their roster, particularly on the defensive side. Following a disappointing 2024 season where the team recorded a league-low 28 sacks, the Patriots aim to bolster their pass rush ahead of the new campaign.

One potential solution comes in the form of edge rusher Harold Landry, who is reportedly available for trade from the Tennessee Titans. According to Joe Summers of Chowder & Champions, the Patriots could send a fourth-round draft pick to Tennessee in exchange for Landry, significantly enhancing New England’s defensive line.

Landry’s arrival could have a transformative impact. He has two years left on his contract, with salary cap hits exceeding $24 million each season. However, his trade request has diminished the Titans’ bargaining power, making a deal not only plausible but also insightful for the Patriots.

“New England has the cap space to take his contract on, and Landry achieved tremendous success with [Mike] Vrabel in Tennessee,” Summers noted. Under Vrabel’s leadership, Landry earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2021, notching 75 tackles and 12 sacks. A torn ACL limited Landry’s performance in 2022; however, he has rebounded effectively in 2023, tallying 17.5 sacks over the last two seasons.

Summers added, “For Tennessee, getting a pick almost in the top 100 for a player who intends to leave would be a reasonable return. They’d do right by Landry by reuniting him with a former coach, though they could draft his theoretical replacement with that pick.”

As the Patriots continue their search for upgrades on defense, it remains to be seen whether they can finalize a deal for the 28-year-old Landry. The next few weeks will likely prove crucial as teams attempt to navigate the complexities of the offseason roster adjustments.
